Villa El Horcajillo is situated just inside the northern boundaries of the province of Malaga. It lies off a small country road between Villanueva de Algaidas, Villanueva de Tapia and Iznajar, near the shores of a large man made lake the Embalse de Iznajar.
There are so many beautifull places to discover in Andalucia!... and Villa "El Horcajillo" is located just in the center of this magic area. Enjoy your stay here visiting several places, culture, nature, art, gastrnomy, wines, nice people.... What else do you need??
Iznajar a beautiful hilltop town, overlooking a magnificent lake. The lake is not unlike a Scottish loch, particularly in the early morning mist, although this one is surrounded by hills clad with olive groves. There is a beach where you can swim and sail, and good fishing in the waters.

Valdearenas Beach: There is a beach on the lake where you can swim, rent pedalos and canoes, and learn to sail (and possibly other water sports). It tends to be busier on Sundays but is very quiet during the week, even in the height of the season. The water is beautiful to swim in, the bathing is safe and the beach has sand to lie on or for children to play in.
Golf: The world famous golf courses of the Costa del Sol are only an hour away and those of the Costa del Golf, including Valderrama, Sotogrande and San Roque, are about 1½ hours away. The nearest golf course is located in Antequera, only 35 km away from Villa "El Horcajillo".
It is half an hour to Fuente de Piedra, the home of Spain’s only breeding colony of flamingos, and there’s more wildlife at El Torcal National Park (Antequera), a stunning area with majestic and fascinating limestone columns and formations, with various marked walking trails.
VIEW of EL TORCAL de Antequera
Antequera is a medium sized typical medieval town.
As you drive down from Villanueva de Algaidas, it is a wonderful sight as the vega (plain) of Antequera opens up before your eyes, a wide, lush, green plain sprinkled with little white farmhouses shimmering in the sunshine. This is the moment when you know you have reached the real Andalucia - an entirely different world from the coast!
Antequera has a long history - its prehistoric burial sites or 'Dolmens' testify to that. Its varied and beautiful architecture bears the mark of the many different overlords of this ancient town. The Romans called it Antikaria (meaning 'ancient') and Roman treasures can be seen in the town's museum. The town was renamed Medina Anticaria by Spain's Arab invaders, who ruled the town until 1410, when the Moorish castle that still dominates the town fell to the Christian armies of the Reconquest. Many pages could be filled with descriptions of Antequera's beautiful churches, monasteries and historic buldings and I do not propose to list them all here! The tourist office in the Plaza San Sebastian will supply all the information you need for a delightful day's sightseeing.

If you are happy to drive around sightseeing, there are several well-known Spanish towns to visit within an hour or two, including Malaga with its modern shops, historic old town and new Picasso Museum (one hour), Granada (one hour), Cordoba (one hour) and Seville (two hours).
Inside the Mosque turned Cathedral in Cordoba, once the largest city in Europe. Nearby is the ancient Jewish quarter with narrow streets hanging baskets of flowers and cool courtyards.
